Conrad “Connie” Lapins

Connie’s greatest influence on my life was teaching me how to tell stories and jokes. “Paint the picture”, he said; don’t rush it.

Just a few days ago, I was still getting mileage out of his one about the brilliant orange golf ball that buzzed and flashed (and today would have GPS capabilities). When asked where the ball came from or how he got it, the answer was “Oh, I just found it.” So Connie! Nothing dirty or mean, just a humorous, slightly incongruous story.

I cannot forget his smile and friendliness. He will always be in my memory.

I knew Connie from the Leaning Tower “Y”. We swam together, and on Tuesday mornings,we played golf together at Tam-O-Shanter in Niles. We had a group of 4 to 7 guys that played pretty consistently for many years.He always called Anne when he was on the way home. A great guy well worth knowing.
